As an eminent botanist and biologist, Francis Hallé is one of those people with slightly crazy dreams with whom Cécile Figuette strongly wished to collaborate.
Born in 1938, as a child he experienced the exhilarating feeling of freedom perched on trees more than 20 meters high, while below, the Second World War threatened humanity.
From then on, his path to the top of the canopy of the largest tropical forests seemed to be mapped out. Fascinated by the beauty of trees, Francis Hallé devoted his life to the study of these living beings while advocating for their recognition.
As photography was not enough to fully describe the richness and uniqueness of the different species and types of forests, this dreamy scientist has been sketching trees around the world, from their tops to their roots, with a pencil for over half a century.
As privileged witnesses of his years of active observation, his sketches, forest profiles, and other tree works, with their precise and meticulous aesthetics, certainly contribute to enriching our vision of the living world.
