Julie Jonquet-Caunes

Julie Jonquet Caunes is a Paris-based illustrator and graphic designer. After several years working at the auction house Artcurial, she has developed an independent practice since 2015 at the intersection of graphic design and illustration.

Often working with coloured pencil, her drawings explore objects and forms as carriers of stories and cultural references. Informed by her experience in the auction world and decorative arts, her visual language brings together artefacts, motifs, and architectural elements in compositions that are both precise and expressive.

Between structure and movement

Wallpaper allows what few other mediums permit: to turn a drawing into a place. Julie Jonquet Caunes takes hold of this with a naturalness that owes as much to her sensitivity as an illustrator as to her knowledge of objects and interiors.

The coloured pencil, which she wields with an almost stubborn precision, allows her to create  matte and velvety textures.

Four compositions: Dominos, Pelagos, Scala and Bow

The collection unfolds through four distinct designs.

Dominos explores repetition through a rhythmic composition of forms.

Pelagos evokes a fluid, almost aquatic landscape shaped by layered tones.

Scala builds a structured vertical rhythm through subtle variations.

Bow introduces a softer, more organic movement, where lines gather and unfold.

Together, they reflect Julie Jonquet-Caunes’ approach to composition — balancing structure, intuition and materiality.
